Concerto For Voice And Machinery II

February 13th, 2007

artist jo mitchell has been comissioned by the ica for the re-enactment of ‘concerto for voice and machinery’ a legendary gig held at the ica in 1984 and i’m in it.

The performers, all wearing goggles for protection from the fierce showers of sparks flying from the hot slicings of wood and metal, included Neubauten regulars Mufti, Marc Chung and Alexander Von Borsig, plus Genesis P. Orridge, Fadist Frank Tovey, Jila (from Holland’s Schlafose Nacht) and the svelte frame of Stevo. The latter first toiling at woodsaw and later switching to an assault on a locker room cabinet.

MrrorWorldMusic

February 13th, 2007

peter kruger of lustfaust infamy is appearing on a new release by german electronica outfit schnieder tm.

They’ve set up a record label, MirrorWorldMusic, and it’s gonna be ltd edition on 7″ vinyl.

hey there, so….this is it. talked about for years and finaly on it`s way : MirrorWorldMusic…..the people behind the mirror being michael beckett (aka kptmichigan) and dirk dresselhaus (aka schneider tm). the plan is to enable ourselves to release our own stuff and stuff we find worthy of release, when and how we want. the FIRST RELEASE will be a 7″ by schneider tm & lustfaust (or better : peter kruger, the amazing singer of lustfaust. if you dunno what lustfaust is, check out www.lustfaust.com or if you have to www.myspace.com/lustfaust). there is no fixed release date (one of the things we`re trying to avoid) but you can hear the tunes in the player above and if you want to preorder, please get in touch at preorder@mirrorworldmusic.com. once the website is up and running you will be able to order comfortably from there. ok, this being myspace, it won`t be updates as regularly as www.mirrorworldmusic.com, so just check by there every now and then or sign up for the newsletter. bis später peter, m * d

Making Music With a Long Tube

December 8th, 2006

NEW YORK — On a cold night in early December, composer and sound artist Brenda Hutchinson stood alone onstage at Roulette, a lower Manhattan venue with vertiginous loft ceilings, whitewashed walls and polished wood floors. An Apple laptop glowed at her elbow, and one end of a 9.5-foot-long aluminum shaft rested in her hands.

Six Word Story

October 6th, 2006

Ernest Hemingway was once prodded to compose a complete story in six words. His answer, personally felt to be his best prose ever, was “For sale: baby shoes, never used.”

Jazz on Bones: X-Ray Sound Recordings

September 5th, 2006

In the USSR and Eastern Europe in the 1950s underground night spots would play music pirated from the west. The only media they had were recorders etched into discarded X-ray film. I’ve long sought some images. Researcher Camille Cloutier pointed me to these, collected and posted by József Hajdú. Here’s what he says about them:

Websites as graphs

September 5th, 2006

Everyday, we look at dozens of websites. The structure of these websites is defined in HTML, the lingua franca for publishing information on the web. Your browser’s job is to render the HTML according to the specs (most of the time, at least). You can look at the code behind any website by selecting the “View source” tab somewhere in your browser’s menu.
